How to record your story over the phone

In addition to writing a story, you can also have it transcribed automatically from a voice recording. Follow these steps to record, edit and save your story on your account.

1. First, log in to Storyworth, and open the story that you want to record from your list of stories.

2. Click the microphone icon to the right of the story — it will say “Record”:

3. Type in your phone number and click “Request a call”

4. You should receive the phone call within moments. When you answer, you’ll hear an automated prompt with your question. You can begin recording at the beep. Hang up when you are finished.

5. The transcription will appear automatically in your story as soon as it is ready. This usually only takes a few seconds.

FAQs about audio recording

Can I record more than once?

Right now, it’s only possible to record once per story. If you make a mistake with a recording, you can delete it and start over with a new recording.

To delete the recording, click “Edit” off to the right of your story, and click “Delete” in the bottom right corner. Refresh the page to see the microphone icon and try the recording again.

I’ve finished recording, but I don’t see my text. How long does the transcription take?

This depends on how long your recording is. A twenty-minute recording should only take about a minute. If it’s been several minutes, please feel free to reach out to our support team at hello@storyworth.com for additional help.

I didn’t receive my phone call to record — how do I troubleshoot?

Your phone may be sending the call directly to voicemail. Double-check your phone settings to make sure it allows unknown numbers. Alternatively, you can request a call to a different phone number (spouse, landline, etc.)

The transcription is not exactly right — can I edit it?

Yes! Just click anywhere on the story to edit it. While we hope the transcriptions will be fairly accurate, it may not be perfect, so you may want to make a few edits.

Can I record in another language?

Currently, our audio program can automatically transcribe multiple languages, including:

Spanish
English
Portuguese
Dutch
French
German
Italian
Swedish

Other languages can be transcribed automatically, but are not fully supported with our current printing software:

Hindi
Japanese
Russian
Ukrainian
Chinese
Indonesian
Korean
Turkish

Any language that we do not currently support for transcriptions can still be voice recorded, but the recording will not be transcribed. For more information about whether or not your language is supported for audio and/or printing, please email us at hello@storyworth.com.

Can I listen to the recording?

Yes, you can listen to the recording on the website.  Hover over the text of the story to see the recording near the top.  Click the triangle play button to listen to it.

You can also download the recording by clicking the 3 dots and choosing Download, like this:
