Can I voice record my stories?

Updated on July 24th, 2026

Yes, there are three ways to voice-record your stories over the phone. You can even use a landline. A QR code will be added to your memoir so you can listen to recordings at any time. Access to each will depend on your plan. Audio recordings are transcribed automatically a few minutes after the phone call ends, and the transcriptions can be edited at any time.

Story Calls let storytellers tell stories over the phone, even on a landline. Every call is automatically transcribed into their memoir word-for-word, but storytellers can add to it or include photos at any time.

Magic Interviews guide storytellers through a phone conversation, asking follow-up questions that help bring stories to life. When the call ends, Storyworth turns the conversation into a written narrative that can be edited at any time.

Family Calls let a friend or family member join a storyteller on a weekly call. They can ask questions or share their own memories, and Storyworth will preserve both voices in your memoir.

We recommend completing your recording in a quiet room to prevent background noise from affecting the transcription.  If you are completing a family call, make sure each caller is in a separate space to prevent echoing on the call.

Magic Interviews can only be conducted in English for now, but we hope to support other languages in the future.  Story Calls can be conducted in several languages – see the full list here.

To record a story, choose an unwritten story from your list, and click on “Talk” to see the options available to you:

Choose which audio option you'd like and enter your phone number.  Our system will call your phone, and you can simply answer and tell your story. Hang up when finished and wait a minute or two for your transcription to appear.
